Artists in the Classroom

The Artists in the Classroom program is a custom-made program bringing professional artists to your classroom for hands-on, highly interactive learning sessions. This program was created to align with Indiana State Curriculum guidelines for grades three to twelve and to intensify the combined theatre and academic experience in your lesson plans.  Areas of study: Language Arts, Performing Arts, Social
Studies, Visual Arts, Life Skills and Music.

For AIC visits with distances over twenty miles, an additional mileage charge will be accessed based on the standard mileage rate allowed by the IRS.

The Play's the Thing!
Your students will learn more from their theatrical experience by participating in The Play’s the Thing. Equal emphasis is placed on both IRT’s production concept and the text itself through activities and a discussion of themes, characters, dramatic structure and the production process. Both the pre- and post-show sessions encourage critical perception and analysis. Find out how you can “add-on” an AIC program to your student matinee performance when you make your student matinee reservation!
Age:
Fee: $75 per single visit, $65 for multiple visits

You're the Critic
Students learn how to evaluate a production and write a review. We guide them to look at the artistic, technical and practical components that influence what they will see on stage. We discuss how the audience can better appreciate and understand the director’s concept and the playwright’s message. The program includes practice writing.

Enter on the Write Foot!
Good writing and good acting both require artists to get to know their characters, to “walk a mile in their shoes.” In this workshop, students will examine shoes and make inferences about the characters who own them. Hands-on observation, prewriting and writing, led by a professional writer, will provide students with the foundations they can use to build longer narrative pieces.

From Page to Stage
Let us help you and your students bring the story of your choice to life. Through multiple sessions, your students meet and interact with professional artists (playwrights, directors, actors, and designers) who guide you and them through adapting a story into a play. This program meets numerous state standards. Every child experiences a success!
